Boards that ignore the demands of activist or institutional investors will be challenged. The chairman, chief executive and others will be expected to communicate their strategies and meet the expectations of the company&#8217;s largest stakeholders. Some shareholders acquire their stake in the company in order to promote a political or social agenda, or to derive personal benefit through corporate actions such as divestments.
